New York City residents love "The City". They are only vaguely aware there is anything beyond the city limits. When one is born and raised in the metropolitan New York City area, "Upstate" is Westchester or Rockland County. There are rumors of life above that point, but no one is sure if it is civilized, or even human.
Growing up and exploring all the nooks and crannies throughout the five boroughs, was exciting, and empowering. Being able to travel easily and inexpensively by subway and bus from the age of 12, broadened my horizons. I learned about the world, it's diversity, and came to appreciate the culture, food, and music from around the world. There was always something different to discover and explore.
When I went "Upstate" in 1974, with a friend, I discovered just how much more of New York there is to Love..... 180,000 times more, the state being that much larger then the City. It was very different, much more open and rural, I fell in love at first sight. Time and time again, I would find the prettiest place in New York, and turn the next bend, only to find a prettier one.
It didn't take me long to wrap up my connections downstate, and move North. It will always be fun to visit "The City", but now this 'City Boy' had gone 'Country'. I now own a home and 10 acres on a county road, and have to walk down to the road to see my neighbor's house.
10 years ago, I began creating content for the internet, and designing websites for myself and friends. This naturally led to my sharing my discoveries about New York State with the world. Presented here are links to websites, created to make the world aware of the wonders of this great state!
